the town's origins are lost in history, and numerous archaeological findings bear witness to the area's inhabitation even before the arrival of the Etruscans.
Today this city is one of the jewels of the Maremma and a large amount of sulphurous water continues to flow from its source at a temperature of 37.5°C. Well worth visiting is Piazza Vittorio Veneto, the urban stretch of Via Clodia (180 BC) with the remains of the original Roman road, the Roman Gate and remains of Etruscan walls, the ancient pool of Bagno Secco, Ciacci Castle and Via Aldobrandeschi.
